“I like you a lot. Nearly perfect, which isn't something I've been able to say about any wireless carrier so far.” Saurabh G, Visible member

“I needed to get off my parents’ phone plan. Comparing the options, Visible was the most straightforward switch (no contracts, confusing sign-up deals, etc.) and one of the cheapest options for unlimited services. I love that it’s all mobile, and the live-chat is always super helpful!” Jenna R, Visible member

Verizon Will Charge $2 To Pay Bill Online Or By Phone

Beginning Jan. 15, Verizon will charge you an extra $2 if you choose to pay your bill online or by phone. In a statement, the largest mobile service provider in the country said the "convenience fee" is "designed to address costs incurred by us for only those customers who choose to make single bill payments in alternate payment channels."

Verizon also lists seven ways that allow you to pay without incurring the fee and it reads a bit like the complex mobile bills you get each month. They are:

  • Electronic check online (My Verizon Online, My Verizon Mobile/Handset). Fee waived.
  • Electronic check via telephone. Fee waived.
  • Enrollment in AutoPay using credit/debit/ATM card or electronic check; fee does not apply
  • Online from the customer's home-banking service provider website; fee does not apply.
  • Credit/debit/ATM card, electronic check or cash at a Bill Payment Kiosk, Panel or with a representative at a Verizon Wireless Communications Store; fee does not apply.
  • Use of a Verizon Wireless Gift Card or Verizon Wireless device Rebate Card to pay a bill in-store, online or by telephone; fee does not apply
  • Paper check or money order mailed to the VZW remit address on customer's bill; fee does not apply.
  • Saying the move is part of a larger trend to get more money out of customers for using certain methods of payment, CNet is already speculating whether the new charge will unleash the kind of public scorn that led Bank of America to walk back from its $5 fee to use debit cards.

The AP reports that other cellphone companies have tried to entice customers to move to auto-pay through other means:

"AT&T offers a $10 gift card for those who set up AutoPay. Sprint Nextel charges subscribers who have caps on the fees they can rack up each month. Those people are charged $5 monthly unless they set up autopay."

How to Cancel a Verizon Wireless Bill Payment

Verizon allows customers to pay a wireless bill using a checking or credit account. When you schedule a payment, it can come out of the account on the same day or you can schedule it to come out on a specific day as a one-time payment, or as a monthly automatic withdrawal through Verizon's Auto Bill Pay service. Many different reasons exist for cancelling a payment such as funds availability issues or an incorrect scheduled payment amount. Whatever your reason or the payment method used, you can cancel the payment one of three ways as long as Verizon hasn't already withdrawn the monies.

    Step 1

Log in to your My Verizon account at least four business days before the scheduled bill payment date. Select "Auto Bill Pay" from the options, click "Suspend" and follow the on-screen instructions to cancel the Verizon wireless bill payment.

    Step 2

Contact Verizon to cancel the payment through customer service. If you don't know your local Verizon wireless phone number, go to the Verizon Set Your Location Web page, enter your ZIP code or select your state from the drop-down menu, then click the "Set Location" button to get a contact number.

    Step 3

Call or visit the financial institution that maintains the account Verizon is withdrawing the payment from and request a stop payment before the money is withdrawn.

Verizon Wireless is ridiculously expensive. There, I said it, now let’s move on with life and find some ways to lower your monthly Verizon bill. Ways that won’t require much work on your end, which if you’re like me, are some of the best ways to save some cash. Let’s do this…

    Lower Verizon bill

    1. Go With a Verizon Pre-Paid Plan

Are you even aware that Verizon offers a pre-paid smartphone plan? I wasn’t until recently and I’m here to tell ya that it can save you a bunch of money.

Plus, there’s no activation fee and NO contract required.

You can either buy one of their phones, or bring your own by buying a 4G LTE SIM Activation Kit for $49.99.

Here’s how their 3 pre-paid plans (Auto pay required) currently breakdown:

    • $35/month – Unlimited U.S. talk and text, 6 GB high speed data, mobile hotspot. Cheapest plan you’ll find with Verizon.
    • $45/month – Unlimited U.S. talk and text, mobile hotspot, 16 GB of data. Most popular. $5/month less than their similar unlimited plan.
    • $65/month – Unlimited Data, talk and text to U.S., Mexico, and Canada, mobile hotspot.

All three of these plans are solid options.

    2. Deal Only With an Authorized Verizon Retailer

I recently read something that really surprised me about Verizon.

Apparently their customer service reps and corporate store employees get paid a commission when they talk you into raising your data plan.

To fight this, you’ll want to ONLY deal with authorized Verizon retailers, also known as Verizon premium retailers, as they don’t make a cent from upgrading your GBs.

Instead, they only recommend a data plan upgrade if it makes sense for you and your situation.

A couple of the more visited authorized Verizon retailers in my town include Costco and Best Buy.

On a personal note, my wife has always had a very good experience dealing with the Verizon reps at our Costco and it’s the only place she’ll visit when she needs to talk to someone about her account.

She absolutely hates going to the Verizon store as the employees have always blown her off and been quite rude because she has a lot of questions BUT was not a big spender.

A combination they apparently have very little time or patience for. Visit here to find all the local authorized retailers in your area.

So the takeaway here is to visit an authorized retailer and ask for their help to get your bill lowered.

Since they aren’t getting paid to raise your bill, they’re much more likely to tell you about ways to save some money each month.

The truth of the matter is that Verizon always has new promotions and specials and it’s often hard to understand them and keep them straight.

So let them help you and have them explain your options.

    3. Find a Cheaper Alternative That Uses Verizon Towers

Did you know that there are some cell providers who “buy space”, at a big discount, on Verizon’s network of cell towers?

These no-contract providers make for fantastic alternatives to Verizon as they’ll save you a bunch of money every month.

They use the same exact cell towers that Verizon customers use.

So if you’re concerned about switching to a new provider, and then not getting the same coverage you’re currently getting with Verizon, worry no more.

Here are the up-and-coming discount providers that access Verizon cell towers.

    • Page Plus Cellular: By far their best value is the $39.95/mo plan that scores you unlimited talk and text along with 3GB of data at 4G LTE (2G thereafter).
    • Straight Talk Wireless: Their most popular plan costs $45/month and gets you unlimited talk, text, and 5GB monthly data at 4G speed (2G after you use 5GB).
    • Tracfone: Check out their $35 a month plan which gets you 750 talk minutes, 100 texts, and 1 GB of data.
    • TotalWireless: Available through their website and at Walmart, they have a killer $35/month plan which offers unlimited talk and text and 5GB of data.

The biggest complaint that usually surfaces with these companies is a lack of customer service.

But if you can put up with that, and have even the slightest knack for tech, you should be just fine and save big in the process.

Have you had any success with any of these discount providers? Let me know in the comments section.

    4. Check for Employer Discounts

    Verizon discount

Many workers across the country are eligible for a monthly discount from Verizon. This is especially true with teachers, military/vets, corporate workers, and many state worker.

My wife is a teacher at a public school and she gets a flat 15% taken off her Verizon bill each and every month.

All you have to do to get your discount is verify your employment with Verizon. I’ve found the easiest way to do this is to take proof of your employment, pay stub, job contract, or something similar, to an actual Verizon store location.

I’ve tried to do it online but it’s a total pain in the butt and ended up not working.

So I ended up just visiting our local Verizon and they hooked us up with a 15% monthly discount.

Here’s the online form if you want to give it a try and get more info.

    5. Move Your Plan Down a Notch

Let’s face it, the most expensive item on your Verizon bill is always gonna be your data package.

Be sure you analyze just how much data you use every month and see if you can cut-back and survive.

Verizon has a pretty decent deal that gives you 2GB of data, with unlimited talk/text, for just $35 a month.

If you’re worried about those summer or vacation months when you tend to suck up more data, just pay the incremental fee for more data and you’ll still come out way ahead at the end of the year.

Ask the Reader: Are you sick and tired of paying a ridiculous amount of money each month to Verizon? I think it’s officially time to lower your Verizon bill or move on to a company that can.

    Happy savings.

verizon number to pay bill over phone

Verizon number to pay bill over phone -

It’s no secret that cell phone bills are out-of-this-world expensive. J.D. Power reports the average monthly bill will set you back $157.1 After your monthly housing, grocery and utility costs, it might just be the next priciest thing in your entire budget.

But are there actual ways you can have a lower cell phone bill? We’re surrounded by a million different cellular providers and too many plans to count. It can be overwhelming when you try to look over all the options to save money on your bill. But guess what—it is possible to save money!

If you’re tired of paying a small fortune every month just to make calls, try these 12 tips to have a lower cell phone bill.

    1. Use Wi-Fi when you can.

Try to stay on a Wi-Fi connection whenever it’s available—especially at home or work. And if you don’t have Wi-Fi access when you’re on the go, be smart about it! Don’t download or stream any movies, podcasts or music unless you’re on Wi-Fi.

    Money

    Start budgeting with EveryDollar today!

Those fees for using too much data can add up quickly, and some providers charge you as much as $15 the instant you go over. Make sure you stay within your monthly limit by only using cellular data (4G/LTE) when you need it. Some carriers will send you a warning when you’re getting close to your limit. Sign up for those alerts!

    2. Limit your background data use.

Even if you don’t use the internet when you’re out and about, your apps might still be using it in the background. Sneaky, we know.

Go into your settings and look over the Cellular Data Usage and Background App Refresh of each app and turn off the ones you don’t really use. Making this quick flip means you’ll know they aren’t running in the background and draining your data (and your battery) while you’re minding your own business.

Need to bring up your Starbucks app while you’re waiting in line? No big deal. You can turn on cellular data for a specific app anytime you want.

    3. Cut the insurance.

Let’s say you pay about $11 a month for phone insurance. That adds up to an extra $132 a year you’re shelling out just in case something happens to your phone. Instead, set aside a few extra dollars a month so you can pay for a replacement phone if you ever need one.

If you still feel like you really “need” insurance for your cell phone, stop and ask yourself this question: Have I bought a phone I can’t actually afford? If you don’t have the cash on hand to replace your phone if something happens to it, your phone is too expensive for your budget.

    4. Sign up for automated payments or paperless billing.

Here’s one way to lower your cell phone bill with very little effort. This probably won’t save you a huge amount of money. But if you could save $5 a month just for going paperless or having your bill automatically taken out of your account, why wouldn’t you?

    5. Take advantage of your employee discount.

Another thing to find out is if your work offers team members a general corporate discount. It’s also worth a shot to see if they reimburse you for using your phone for work (email, calls, etc.). And if you’re using your phone for a home business or side hustle, you might be able to write off some of your cost when tax time rolls around.

    6. Buy no-contract phones.

Cell phone companies know how to make money—lots and lots of money. One way they do that is through contracts. To buy a phone through them, you’ll usually have to sign a two-year or even three-year contract to use their network. And then they’ll hit you with a ridiculous cancellation charge if you try to switch carriers.

So, what do you do instead? Buy no-contract, gently used phones. These phones are labeled “unlocked”  (meaning you can use them with any carrier) and can take a SIM card. Ask around and look online for older phone models to purchase at a discounted price.

No, you won’t get the hottest or newest smartphone this way, but you can get a really good smartphone without locking yourself into one expensive company for years to come. Which leads us to the next tip here . . .

    7. Keep your phone longer.

Want a lower cell phone bill? This is one of the easiest ways to do it! Hang on to that phone as long as you can! Does your “old” phone make calls just fine? Great. Keep it a little longer. Don’t get tempted by the latest and greatest shiny cell phone on the market. A phone is a phone.

    8. Don’t do a payment plan for your phone.

This is one of the simplest ways to get a lower cell phone bill. Steer clear of rolling the cost of a brand-new phone into your wireless bill. You’d just be making payments on a new phone (yeah, that counts as debt) all while it hikes up your phone bill even more. No thanks!

Let’s say you want to buy a new iPhone. We all know that sucker isn’t cheap. And your cellular provider is offering it to you for a low monthly payment of $30 a month—for two years. That means your entire phone bill will be $30 higher than it needs to be for two years!Wouldn’t you rather have an extra 30 bucks to put toward your money goals?

And what happens if you lose the phone or it breaks? You’re going to need a new phone. But you’ll still have to pay off the remaining balance left over from the old phone. Well, gee, that stinks.

Believe us, paying for your phone outright will save you a ton of money in the long run.

    9. Cut out the stuff you don’t use.

Take a look at your monthly bill. This might seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised by how many people don’t look at the breakdown of their cell phone bill. Don’t continue to pay for things you never use, like too many minutes, unlimited data, emergency roadside assistance, 411 and “enhanced voicemail” (whatever that means).

Decide if you really need everything you’re paying for. If the answer is no, it could be time to switch your plan. If you don’t talk on your phone a lot, you might be able to downgrade to a plan with fewer minutes. And if you never even come close to reaching your data limit, find a plan that includes less.

Some carriers even offer prepaid plans or let you pay for only what you use. See if either of those options could reduce your costs. Look into all the possibilities out there!

    10. Ask for a better price.

When you’re in the market for a new phone, don’t just assume you have to pay the sticker price. Go to the store and talk with a salesperson to see if you can get the activation or upgrade fee waived (aka canceled so you don’t have to pay for it!). If you’ve been a customer for a long time, be sure to bring that up to see if you can score a loyalty discount.

And if you find a great offer from a competitor, ask your current provider if they can match it. Use whatever bargaining chip you have, including fees—or lack of fees—from competitors. It never hurts to ask for a better deal. Competition with other carriers is stiff, so they might just agree! But if they won’t negotiate, move on to our next point.

    11. Switch carriers.

So, you’ve tried everything else. We saved the best (and most drastic) for last: It’s time to switch your service provider! Shop around to see who can give you what you need for the price that fits your budget. You’ll probably discover a better deal at one of the smaller, lesser-known carriers. Most of them have some link to the “big guys” and use their cellular towers for your phone signal anyway. So chances are, you’re still going to get pretty great coverage—but at a fraction of the cost.

Just make sure you do your research. Ask around. Read reviews. And don’t sign up with a lousy carrier.

    12. Add up the long-term costs.

If you’re shopping carriers and aren’t sure who to pick, this is one surefire way to see it all in black and white. Add up the cost of the phone itself plus the cost of the service for the whole year. That puts the total amount in your face instead of just the easy-to-chew, month-to-month payments. Be sure to do this before you actually take the plunge and switch.

A Lower Cell Phone Bill Is What Your Budget Needs

Your budget is all about the numbers. If you have a lower cell phone bill and it becomes a smaller part of your budget, you’ll have more money on hand to hit your goals each month—whether that’s throwing more at your debt or saving up for your future.

They are:

    1. Electronic check online (My Verizon Online, My Verizon Mobile/Handset). Fee waived.
    2. Electronic check via telephone. Fee waived.
    3. Enrollment in AutoPay using credit/debit/ATM card or electronic check; fee does not apply
    4. Online from the customer's home-banking service provider website; fee does not apply.
    5. Credit/debit/ATM card, electronic check or cash at a Bill Payment Kiosk, Panel or with a representative at a Verizon Wireless Communications Store; fee does not apply.
    6. Use of a Verizon Wireless Gift Card or Verizon Wireless device Rebate Card to pay a bill in-store, online or by telephone; fee does not apply
    7. Paper check or money order mailed to the VZW remit address on customer's bill; fee does not apply.

Saying the move is part of a larger trend to get more money out of customers for using certain methods of payment, CNet is already speculating whether the new charge will unleash the kind of public scorn that led Bank of America to walk back from its $5 fee to use debit cards.

If you want to skip the hassle and get results, we’d be happy to negotiate your bill on your behalf. Just click the button below to get started.

    Steps To Lower Verizon Bills

    1. Find your latest statement and review your current plan features
    2. Call Verizon at 1 (800) 922-0204 or chat with them online
    3. See if you can save by changing your plan or getting line discounts
    4. Check if you’re overpaying on Verizon phone insurance
    5. Sign up for auto-pay or military/employee discounts
    6. Confirm the savings by getting a reference code

    Pre-Negotiation Preparation

You can call or chat with Verizon to lower your bill.  We recommend calling. The deals provided in chat aren’t as good as the ones you can get by calling and chat takes more time.

Verizon’s retention phone number is 1-800-922-0204 and you can chat with them by going to https://www.verizon.com/support/contact-us/.

For your opening move, ask the agent to review your account for any ways to save money on your bill.

You don’t need to give any particular reasons why you want to save money.  Verizon customer service representatives are very used to this request.

They’ll typically need some time to look at their system to see what options you have.

Verizon Line Discounts and Loyalty Credits

Two of the most common ways to save on your existing bill are line discounts and loyalty credits.

Verizon has per line charges per phone. It’s possible that their current per line charges are cheaper than what you’re currently paying.  They also have line promotions from time to time that can lower your per line charges up to 50%.

These are random and you’re only going to be able to take advantage of them if you know they’re going on.  They’re often state-specific.

If you’re a long-time or valuable Verizon customer, agents sometimes provide loyalty $10-$20 a month discounts for 12 months.

Monthly loyalty credits will either be available on your plan or not. If neither of these options works, you may want to consider changing your plan with Verizon.

If you just want to learn how to cancel your Verizon bill, you can learn more from our guide on the subject.

Saving Money On Verizon: Existing Customers

Verizon changes its plan structures every couple of months of years to react to competition from other service providers like AT&T and T-Mobile.  If you’ve been a long-time customer, it’s likely that your plan hasn’t changed and is no longer being offered.

This can be a benefit if you have a great unlimited data plan or if you lucked into a particularly good promotion. But the chances are good that prices are cheaper now.

If there’s no line discount or loyalty credits available, then see if you can change your plan to get savings.  Most of the time there are only small differences between the plans. With bigger changes, you could save even more by getting a gig plan instead of an unlimited plan.

But wait, there’s more!  Two of the biggest ways that customers overpay are on phone insurance and hotspots.

    Saving on Verizon Insurance

How much is your iPhone from 2 years ago worth?  The chances are you paid $1,000 but that same phone is only worth $500.

It’s weird how phones work like that. But that’s just the way it is.

Unfortunately, if you get insurance for your phone, the monthly rate stays the same. Meanwhile, the replacement phone you’d receive in the case of a claim gets cheaper and cheaper to replace.

You can fix that.  If you got insurance when you bought your phone, you’re likely purchased insurance with a company called Asurion.  Verizon offers insurance as well that provides the same level of protection at a lower price.

You can save significantly with these plans.  Besides single-line discounts, you should check to see if you can save by bundling the insurance coverages for all the phones of your plan rather than getting individual insurance on each phone.

You can save about $6 for each phone per month. We’ve seen savings in excess of $50 a month for negotiating the best insurance package for clients. If none of these tactics work, there are other guaranteed ways to save money.

    how to lower verizon bill

All Verizon subscribers can save $10-$20 a month if they’re willing to downgrade their hotspot.

The primary difference between Verizon’s premium Get More Unlimited plan and Start Unlimited regular plan is the inclusion of a hot spot with 15gb of data.

If you don’t use your hot spot much, change your plan and save that $10 to $20.

Other Ways To Save with Verizon Wireless

Verizon provides a $10 discount if you autopay your account every month.  You don’t need to talk to a representative to activate this offer.

Just set up your account on auto-pay online or in the Verizon app and you’ll save.

Verizon also provides discounts to affinity groups.  If you are a member of the military or an eligible company, you can get significant monthly savings as well.

You can find out if your company offers a program at this link.

Verizon sticks a lot of its clients with unneeded services that you don’t realize that you’re paying for.

Some of the top culprits are Verizon Cloud, Jet Pack, Home Protect, Tech Coach, and Smart Family.

If you have any of these services and you don’t use them, get rid of them and save money.

They’re typically between $5-10 a month but this is money that you should just keep rather than giving to Verizon.

    Verizon One Time Credits

Verizon is not super generous with providing one-time credits to customers.

If you’re a long-time Verizon customer, you can get a $10-$20 one-time credit but that’s generally the max.

You can generally get late fees/activation charges in the last couple of months refunded as well.
