The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater grand tourers manufactured by British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque since 2013.[3] The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform.[3] It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the famous E-Type.[4]

The car was launched initially as a 2-door soft-top convertible, with a 2-door fastbackcoupé version launched in 2013.[5]

The F-Type underwent a facelift for the 2021 model year. It was unveiled in December 2019, featuring a significantly restyled front end and dashboard, and simplified drivetrain options.[6][7]

XJ41/XJ42 concept (1986)[edit]

Jaguar XJ42 concept displayed in the British Motor Museum, Gaydon

The F-Type name was first used on a pair of completely unrelated concepts as far back as 1982, when Jaguar realised that the XJ-S had grown too large in size and weight to be classed as a proper successor to the E-Type. Then, two new projects, codenamed the XJ41 (coupé) and XJ42 (convertible) got to an advanced state of development by 1988, however the project was cancelled when Ford Motor Company took over Jaguar in 1989, and the newly installed management determined that upgrading the company's dated production facilities was a higher priority. The XJ-S was given a major facelift (being renamed the XJS) instead as a stop gap solution. The XJ41/XJ42 studies ultimately evolved into the Aston Martin DB7 and the Jaguar XK8 which were launched in 1994 and 1996 respectively.[8][9]

F-Type concept (2000)[edit]

Jaguar F-Type concept displayed in the British Motor Museum, Gaydon

The F-Type concept was a two-seat speedster with a 3.0-litre V6 engine from the S-Type saloon conceived to compete against light weight sports cars, such as the Porsche Boxster. Geoff Lawson, Jaguar's Head of Design, had been working on the development of the car, leading a team of three designers namely Keith Helfet, Adam Hatton and Pasi Pennanen. His jaguar f type svr 0 60 death in 1999 led Ian Callum, the new Head of Design, to continue the project who would present the finalised concept car to the general public at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show to a positive response due to its retro styling which recalled Jaguar automobiles of the 1950s and 60s. At its introduction, the car was quoted to be available with a manual or automatic transmission and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Budget cuts by parent company Ford led Jaguar to pursue its efforts in Formula-One and by 2002, the F-Type project was cancelled due to its failure to meet production feasibility.[10][11]

C-X16 concept (2011)[edit]

Main article: Jaguar C-X16

The C-X16 concept takes cues from the 2010 C-X75plug-in hybridconcept sports car, including the shape of the front grille and the wrap-around rear lights, along with a side-hinged opening rear window reminiscent of the 1961 E-Typefastbackcoupé.[12]

The concept car was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Jaguar stated that the C-X16 was their smallest car since the 1954 Jaguar XK120, at: 4,445 mm (175.0 in) length; 2,048 mm (80.6 in) width; 1,297 mm (51.1 in) height.[13]

The F-Type which was previewed stylistically by the C-X16, was developed under the project code "X152".[14]

The SVR convertible can attain a top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph).[citation needed] The F-Type SVR was discontinued in 2020.[23][24]

F-Type SVR GT4 (2018-present)[edit]

The Jaguar F-Type SVR GT4 is a race car made for the 2018-19 British GT Championship. Invictus Games was created by Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex as an international adaptive multi-sport event for wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel. In 2018 Invictus Racing was set up to offer those in the armed forces who had suffered, the opportunity to compete in the 2018-19 British GT Championship. To make this happen James Holder, co-founder of the clothing brand Superdry, the Invictus Games Foundation and Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations department collaborated to create a race team using two specially developed F-Types. The team was to be run by the very successful David Appleby Engineering.

2018 was a very steep learning curve in the very competitive British GT Championship and 2019 the rewards came with GT4 Pro/Am class wins at Oulton Park in races 1 and 2, and 2nd at Snetterton and Spa.

Both cars campaigned in 2018 and in 2019 the attention was focused on the one car with the other being used for testing purposes.

Estimated at $253,000 to $324,000 for two GT race cars, including an extensive spares package, is a very exciting prospect, bearing in mind a huge amount of expense far above the estimate has been put into this extremely special and unique project. Inspired by this, the british company Aston Martin made the V12 Vantage rally cars.

    2019 Jaguar F-Type

Now in its fifth year, the distinctly Jaguar F-Type has proven itself to be a car with contra costa county health department restaurant inspections, a true-blue two-seat sports car, a coupe or convertible contender against the Corvette and Porsche 911, as well as the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman. The Coupe R and Convertible R are two of the best sports cars on the road today.

For 2019, the four- and six-cylinder engines get names to match their horsepower: P300, P340 and P380. Meanwhile, the V8s carry on with their same names, the R making 550 hp and SVR making 575. Also new for 2019 is a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen. For 2018, the Jaguar F-Type added a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to its lineup, joining two supercharged V6s and two supercharged V8s.

The P300’s 2.0-liter turbo four makes 296 horsepower, mated to an 8-speed automatic, while the 3.0-liter supercharged V6s are mated either to a 6-speed manual or the 8-speed automatic, with all-wheel drive available. The P340’s standard 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with 340 horsepower can accelerate from zero to sixty in 5.1 seconds and hit 161 miles per hour. The P380 with the same V6 making 380 horsepower knocks 0.3 seconds off that time and adds 10 mph to the top speed. The V6 engines sound a little coarse under acceleration, with the whine of the supercharger subdued and drowned by engine noise.

The F-Type R with its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 making 550 horsepower accelerates from zero to sixty in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 186 miles per hour. Optional sport exhaust makes it sound throaty like a V8 Mustang. It’s all-wheel drive, mated to an 8-speed automatic.

The F-Type SVR, also all-wheel drive, makes 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, dropping the 0-60 time to 3.5 seconds and raising the top speed to 200 miles per hour. There’s lots of carbon-fiber trim, and a titanium exhaust system makes the engine downright raucous. Its suspension and steering are tuned for performance, while carbon-ceramic brakes are available. It needs a track to be pushed.

The 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is just about the best automatic we know (that isn’t a twin-clutch). If you bok financial refinance rates have an old-school manual gearbox, you’ll have to stick to the base 340-hp F-Type with rear-wheel drive. It’s good but the sweet automatic shifts faster and gets better fuel mileage.

The new turbo-four base engine is EPA-rated at 23 mpg City, 30 Highway, 26 Combined. The 340-hp V6 with 8-speed automatic rates 19/27/22 mpg, or 1 mpg less with all-wheel drive. The 6-speed manual brings it down to 16/24/19 mpg. F-Types with the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 get phone number santander customer service mpg, with either 550 or 575 hp. All the engines require Premium gasoline.

    Model Lineup

The Jaguar F-Type price sheet shows 24 models, ranging in price from $59,900 for the P300 Coupe with automatic transmission and new turbocharged four engine, to the 575-horsepower SVR Coupe with the supercharged V8 and all-wheel drive for more than twice that, at $121,900. The Convertibles are about $3000 more than the Coupes.

Standard equipment on the P300 includes leather upholstery, 10.0-inch touchscreen for Jaguar’s InControl Touch infotainment, LED headlights, a 380-watt Meridian-branded audio system, power front seats with memory, navigation, and a rearview camera. Options include upgraded leather for $2200, with jaguar f type svr 0 60 seats are part of a $1400 package. The rest of the Coupes come standard with a panoramic sunroof.

The F-Type R has its own sports seat design, performance brakes, upsized wheels, and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

The F-Type P380 has an active exhaust system, driving modes, adaptive dampers, 19-inch wheels, ambient lighting, and a limited-slip rear differential. The SVR gets track-oriented suspension tuning and the most horsepower.

All F-Types get Jaguar’s EliteCare, which covers five years of standard maintenance.

    Exterior

The nose of the F-Type is sleek and tall, with a big grille that isn’t an oval and LED accents that sharpen the look from front. Hints of Maserati and Corvette might be seen in the styling, a notion we suspect Jaguar would not agree with. The lines along the side flow beautifully, with inset door handles to keep things flat and smooth. The roofline of the coupe is streamlined. The best view is from the rear, with powerful haunches and rounded taillamps that suggest history.

    Interior

The F-Type interior is gorgeous. The cockpit is intense, with deeply set gauges, elevated mechanical bits, and a grab handle for the passenger. It’s snug but comfortable, and focused on leather, non-traditional in that there isn’t one splinter of wood. It might feel focused on functional, if it weren’t for the new 10-inch touchscreen for infotainment, and big rotary climate knobs, not to mention the start button and paddle controls in orange like a ship’s emergency raft. Options for trim include red leather and carbon on the dash.

The seats get firmer and more bolstered, as the horsepower in the models rises. The trunk stays the same tiny size, although no smaller than any two-seat sports car. The power convertible top folds so that a tonneau cover isn’t necessary, at speeds up to 30 mph.

The cabin is quiet inside, until you hammer the throttle and either the coarse V6 or throaty V8 do their thing. With the new turbo four, and artificial exhaust sound is pumped into the cabin. It tries too hard.

    Driving Impressions

The Jaguar F-Type delivers performance that rivals the best. The aluminum chassis is about balance as well as lightness. The standard brake-based torque vectoring increases stability during hard cornering.

Against traditional sports cars like the Chevrolet Corvette, the F-Type has one four-season asset: available all-wheel drive, standard on V8 models and optional with most V6s. We like the all-wheel drive for its practicality, although there isn’t a strong sense of all-wheel drive when driving it. The heavier V8 doesn’t handle as light and direct as the V6, but almost.

The P300’s 296-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, is strong but slightly little buzzy at low speeds. It makes a great daily driver, with the softest ride on standard 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Convertible F-Type takes bumps harder than the Coupe, but that doesn’t make the handling sloppy. The available adaptive dampers help a lot. They bring out the sports car in this Jaguar.

The P340 and P380 are quick and nimble, but yaw more and lack the precision of a Porsche Boxster or Cayman. The ride is stiff but not jarring. The coupe, being more rigid than the convertible, handles better, with or without the adaptive dampers.

The F-Type R almost matches the precision of the Boxster and Cayman, in spite of the Jaguar’s greater mass. The F-Type R feels at home on the track. It’s more entertaining to drive than anything in its class, except the Porsche 718 Cayman S and Corvette Z06. The suspension is firmer but not stiff, and the steering is brilliant.

The F-Type SVR is made for track days. It’s punishing around town and the optional expensive carbon-ceramic brakes can be unpredictable.

    Final Word

The Jaguar F-Type is among the best sports cars in the world. The P300, whose 2.0-liter turbo-four engine was new in 2018, is relatively affordable. F-Type models cleanly cover the stretch from daily driver to staggering track-day supercharged V8 beast. The transmission is the best 8-speed automatic in the game.

    What’s New On The Outside?

    • New LED headlights and DRLs
    • New LED taillights
    • New 22-inch Forged Black Wheels
    • Vents and apertures to improve airflow
    • Improved coefficient of drag
    • Jaguar XE SV Project 8-inspired mesh grille
    leftright

The visible changes are the standard stuff you expect from a refresh. It looks a little more aggressive and sharper, like slimmer headlights, more cuts and creases, etc. But, what’s not visible are the tweaks and add-ons made to it that make it a better performer and increases the aerodynamic efficiency.

Some new vents and apertures increase the airflow for the brake and powertrain cooling. Courtesy of these changes, the new F-Pace SVR now boasts jaguar f type svr 0 60 reduced lift and a drag coefficient of 0.36, down from 0.37.

Coming to the changes, there’s a new grille with the SVR badging that is inspired by the design on the Jaguar XE SV Project 8. Other significant changes include a redesigned bumper that features X-shape and blade-like elements within the lower side air vents and intakes, and an enlarged lower intake to improve the airflow. These things also make the front end look lower than the current model.

There are new LED headlights with the signatures Double-J Daytime Running Lights, new LED taillights that are similar to the ones seen on the I-Pace, and new 22-inch forged wheels finished in Gloss Narvik Black with Satin Grey inserts. Overall, the SUV looks smarter and the changes made to it will aid its performance capabilities better.

    What’s New On The Inside?

    • New optional leather seats
    • Alcantara and Windsor leather all around
    • 12.3-inch HD Interactive Driver Display
    • 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system
    • Supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (optional)
    • Active Road Noise Cancellation technology
    • New driver assistance features

Jaguar has made use of more premium material inside the cabin apart from the technology upgrades. The seats and doors are finished in Alcantara and other elements are upholstered in Windsor leather. New optional slimline semi-aniline leather sports seats are now on offer that feature unique embroidery and perforations. The automaker has even upgraded the drive selector for a “more performance-focused feel”. Most of the elements also receive the SVR badging in different forms, be it on the headrests, fort bend food bank volunteer wheel, or the drive selector.

Step into the driver’s seat and you’ll notice a neat 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster which Jaguars prefers calling the “HD Interactive Driver Display”. It throws a ton of data, including full-screen navigation, infotainment, details, and bankwest closing branches on. A Head-up Display is also available as optional. The automaker has swapped the 10-inch touchscreen on the center console with a new 11.4-inch curved glass HD touchscreen. It runs on Pivi Pro infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay as standard, but Android Auto is optional. It comes with a dual-sim technology to stream media and downloads over-the-air updates.

The other features inside the cabin include Active Road Noise Cancellation technology that basically monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by the occupants. Many moons back, the company also announced that it is working on an anti-motion sickness technology. Perhaps, it works on a similar foundation and we could see it feature in the coming years.

Jaguar has also introduced the second-generation wearable Activity Key that can be used to access and start the F-Pace SVR. It replaces the conventional key fob. Driver Assistance features like Clear Exit Monitor and Adaptive Cruise Control are also present. The U.K.-spec models also benefit from a Guardian Mode. There is also stuff like the 3-D camera that works stark county real estate search real-time and cabin air ionization. The 2021 F-Pace received a 14-speaker Meridian sound system and ambient lighting, but there’s no word about the same in the F-Pace SVR.

    What’s Under The Hood?

    • 5.0-liter, V-8 supercharged engine
    • 542 Horsepower
    • 516 Pound-feet of torque
    • Eight-speed automatic gearbox
    • Active all-wheel-drive system
    • New steering system setup
    • Switchable active exhaust system
    • Re-tuned suspension setup

The Jaguar F-Pace SVR is still powered by the same 5.0-liter, V-8 supercharged engine that dishes out 542 horses. However, the torque has increased from 502 pound-feet to 516 pound-feet.

This doesn’t seem like a lot, but coupled with the changes made to the aerodynamics, the SUV can now sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.8 seconds, making it three-tenths of a second quicker than its predecessor. The top speed is rated at 178 mph, two mph more than the model SVR.

The engine is paired to the same eight-speed transmission that was used in the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 sedan. Power is sent to all the wheels via an active all-wheel-drive system. Furthermore, there’s an electronically controlled active rear differential and torque vectoring by braking. The SUV comes with configurable dynamics and features A stopwatch, G-Meter, and pedal graph 1st grade common core standards help the driver to monitor the performance,

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace SVR comes with a whole of other changes, too. It features a new steering system with revised calibration that’s unique to SVR. The dampers are re-tuned for a stiffer setup that makes the ride feel more connected and mechanical. The SVR also benefits from other software upgrades and tuning that result in a sharper throttle response. The company also noted that an integrated Power Booster has uprated the braking performance and offers more confidence. Finally, there’s the switchable active exhaust system with a quad-pipe setup.

    Final Thoughts

In the U.K., the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace SVR is priced at £77,595 (on the road), which is approximately $100,000 as per the exchange rates at the time of writing this article. The U.S.-spec SVR’s pricing is not revealed, but the 2020 model starts at $80,600; so except a price hike considering the changes made to the SUV for the 2021 model year.

2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Review: 575 singing horses

Should you manage to beg, borrow, or steal the keys to the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR, drop everything – bags, laptop, kids – on the ground and drive to the nearest tunnel. Wait until the road is clear; be patient, my friend, because I promise you the payoff is all worth it. You can occupy yourself by opening the windows and tugging the tactile drive-mode toggle into Dynamic, which has the time-saving side effect of switching on the Active Sport Exhaust. Then, when you have the road to yourself, floor the gas.

That the F-Type SVR is fast is, frankly, a given. Jaguar‘s most potent version of its seductive coupe takes the automaker’s supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine and squeezes a heady 575 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque from it. That’s 25 HP more than the “regular” R, enough for 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds – Jaguar’s figure is widely known to be conservative – and all the way on to a top speed of 200 mph if you have the track for it.

It takes a lot of engineering to get that sort of power down to the road and make sure a car sticks to it. All-wheel drive is standard – unlike the RWD V6 I drove last year – as is a ZF 8-speed QuickShift transmission with paddles. There’s an electronic active differential and brake-based torque vectoring to help you go around corners rather than straight through them. A variety of aero adjustments to the body – most conspicuously the huge rear spoiler which motors up at speed – do their level best to keep the skinny Pirelli rubber pressed to the asphalt.

Yet it’s the noise that sticks with you. The F-Type has always been known for its soundtrack, but the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division responsible for the F-Type SVR makes it even more aggressive. Their excuse is that they needed to replace the regular car’s exhaust system since the rear diffuser demands the space. In its place, they cooked up a titanium and Inconel alloy system which gets its own distinct rumble while also cutting 32 pounds of weight.

There’s a button which switches the Active Sport Exhaust system into a tamer mode, but you won’t want to press it. Doing so means you miss out on the triumphant howl of the V8 at full bore, or the shotgun blasts as the gearbox drops down through its cogs. You’d be forgiven for expecting flames.

Without a track at my disposal, I instead let the F-Type SVR loose on some entertainingly twisty backroads. It’s a playground that suits the car’s temperament well. Enough changes in pace that you get to snap through the perfectly geared transmission and hear the ensuing roar and crackle; a mixture of sweeping and hairpin curves to appreciate the nicely weighted steering; plenty of opportunities to put the optional $12,000 carbon ceramic brake system – which comes with 20-inch forged alloy wheels, yellow brake calipers, and a pleasing absence of carbon squeal – to the test.

Addictive is the word for it. The lithe coupe leaps forward with the eagerness of a big cat toying with its prey, snarling and growling as you dart and dive through turns. In Dynamic mode the steering is hyper-alert to the point of twitchiness, while less-than-perfect roads telegraphed California’s meagre budget for repairs right through to the cabin, but the F-Type seldom feels wrong-footed.

There’s still more than enough there to catch you out, mind, just jaguar f type svr 0 60 soon as you start taking the all-wheel drive for granted. Usually, as much as 90-percent of the V8’s power is pushed toward the rear wheels, and should you decline to shed enough speed as you head into a corner, the F-Type SVR is very willing to shimmy its tail entertainingly. The various electronics will probably stop you from hurtling off the road, but not before enough oversteer to bring your stomach somewhere up into your throat as you do mental math on carbon-fiber repair bills.

They wouldn’t be cheap, but overall the F-Type SVR is actually something of a bargain. Atop its $125,950 base price this particular Caldera Red review car had a $750 carbon fiber center console, $700 steering wheel with grippy suede sections, $350 red seat belts, that $12k carbon ceramic brake system, and a $4,000 exterior carbon fiber package with hood louvers, mirror caps, front spoiler, side vents, and side blades all finished in the lightweight material. Jaguar will happily replace the standard glass roof with a weight-cutting and center-of-gravity-lowering carbon fiber panel for $3,200. Alternatively, a convertible version starts at $128,800 but you lose the 200 mph bragging rights along with the roof; it’ll top out at 195 mph.

In all, including destination, it makes for a $144,745 car. Not cheap, but competitive against the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT S it finds itself in the same bracket as. For all its brimstone and speed, you can use the F-Type SVR as a daily-driver, too: in its Normal mode it’ll slink around fairly comfortably in a good impression jaguar f type svr 0 60 a grand tourer. Cabin cubbies aren’t exactly plentiful, but there’s reasonable space in the hatchback trunk. The quilted SVR sports seats are comfortable over extended distances but can still squeeze in for extra support.

Jaguar’s InControl infotainment system is cleanly designed, though its 8-inch touchscreen can be a little slow to respond at times. The absence of CarPlay or Android Auto rankles, too. At 770W, the Meridian audio system sounds incredible, though I wouldn’t argue with the parking sensors being more aggressive since some of the carbon fiber exterior elements are mighty low.

Coddle the F-Type SVR in the parking lot accordingly, though, and it’ll pay you back on the open road, and with interest. The most aggressive car in Jaguar’s line-up still manages to be playful with it, and should you ever tire of its animal howl, its plentiful power, capable chassis, and faithful brakes won’t leave you disappointed. Good kitty. Very, very good kitty.

2017 Jaguar F-Type

The Jaguar F-Type is a real sports car. Jaguar takes great pains to explain that because, for years, it had the bigger, plusher, 2+2 XK convertible and coupe in the lineup.

Grand tourers are great, but they don't compare well with cars like the 911 and Corvette—the cars Jaguar chases with its slinky two-seater.

New in 2014, the F-Type has seen lots of yearly changes in its four model years. First it was R variants, then the addition of all-wheel drive and a manual transmission. This year, the headline is the 575-hp SVR, the fastest Jag since the XJ220 supercar.

Review continues below

It all conspires to make a distinct, flavorful, awe-inspiring sports car with oodles of character.

We give the F-Type a rating of 8.4, well into the highest ranges of our scoring system. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

Jaguar F-Type styling and performance

With the F-Type, Jaguar riffs on its own history, putting heritage cues on a shrink-wrapped body that may as well be wearing Dri-Fit clothes instead of aluminum body panels. It's contemporary but graced with details like half-circles in its taillights, just enough to connote the past. There also are Corvette and Maserati influences here and there, especially at the front end, but the F-Type's best angle is clearly from the rear. The haunches? Olympian.

The cockpit's an intense, focused environment with deep-set gauges and a grab handle for passengers that can take a hint. There's not a splinter of wood in the cabin, but the F-Type does tint its start button and paddle controls in athletic orange; red leather and carbon-fiber are on the can-have list. Wide-screen infotainment and big rotary climate controls round out the interior.

All grand-touring bias gets swept away as you climb the F-Type ladder, from standard supercharged V-6 to extraordinary supercharged V-8. The V-6s are 3.0-liter units, one tuned to 340 horsepower, another to 380-hp tune. The 0-60 mph estimates for these range from 5.1 seconds and 4.8 seconds, respectively, and top speeds are limited to 161 mph and 171 mph. It's a powerful piece with 5.5-second 0-60 mph times at hand, but it's a little gruff (not melodious) under acceleration. All-wheel drive is an option, and there's a manual for anyone not captivated by the F-Type's sweet-shifting 8-speed automatic.

The soundtrack gets positively Mustang-like in the V-8 F-Type. The big supercharged 5.0-liter turns in 550 hp in the F-Type R, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds, as well as a rated top speed of 186 mph. An 8-speed automatic is the sole transmission, and all-wheel drive is mandatory—but adaptive dampers and shift paddles give the V-8 car a commanding presence, even if it's not as light or direct as the V-6 car. The adaptive suspension doesn't quite deliver the same precise control of a Corvette or a 718 Cayman, but it's close.

At the top of the range, there's a track specialist: the new SVR gets 575 hp, retuned suspension and steering, and lots of carbon-fiber trim and optional carbon-ceramic brakes. It's best sampled on a private road course.

F-Type comfort, safety, and features

The F-Type suffers for being a sportscar, but no more than its rivals. It has a tiny trunk and a snug but comfortable two-seat cabin, with firmer and more heavily bolstered sport seats as the power levels rise.

On roadsters, the convertible top is power-operated and folds in such a way that no tonneau cover is needed. It also lowers or rises into place in 12 seconds, at speeds of up to 30 mph. Both it and the coupe are happily quiet on the go, until you trigger their adrenaline-stirring levels of overrun.

The F-Type has no crash-test data to vouch for its safety, but it does offer a raft of technology, everything from blind-spot monitors to a rearview camera to adaptive cruise control.

Other luxury touches are on the table. All models come with the usual power features, a 770-watt audio system, power seats, leather, and on coupes, a panoramic sunroof. F-Type S models come with active exhaust and driver-configurable dynamics. All F-Types now come with Jaguar's new InControl smartphone connectivity and infotainment interface.

On top of that, Jaguar offers EliteCare, a standard package of warranty and maintenance coverage that outpoints all its major rivals.

Prices range from about $62,000 to more than $127,000. Fuel economy ratings range from 18 mpg combined to 23 mpg combined.

Meet the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace SVR. I know what you’re thinking: “Wait, that’s pretty much the old one, isn’t it?” Like the standard F-Pace models, the high-performance crossover gets a subtle, yet appreciable makeover for the new model year. That’s no major loss, since Jaguar has a tendency to create some of the best-looking cars in the business. What’s more important is that the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 is back — and it’s torquier than ever.

The F-Pace SVR was no slouch in the power department before. If you were looking for a crossover in the 550 horsepower range, then you won’t be disappointed here. Yes, that means Jaguar gave this car no more power than before. However, the top-spec crossover does get a slight torque bump to 514 lb-ft (up 12, from 502). Thanks to Jaguar’s XE Project 8, the F-Pace SVR gets a new torque converter and a Dynamic Launch function to lower its 0-60 time. And lower that time it does: You can know (officially) sprint from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, on your way to a 178 mph top speed. That’s a few tenths quicker than Jaguar claimed before.

Like before, the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace SVR comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is also standard fare.

Similar styling, tech tweaks to other 2021 F-Pace models

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace SVR remains the halo of the current crossover lineup, as you’d expect. As such, spending more than $81,750 (Jaguar hasn’t announced 2021 pricing yet, but that’s what the 2020 model costs) should get you a luxurious and thoroughly modern interior. In updating the F-Pace, the company added its Pivi Pro dual-sim infotainment system into the mix. Apart from being faster and more responsive, the 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen adds more of an upscale touch than you got with the old system. The car’s also moving on from the joystick-style gear selector, instead opting for a lower profile, shorter leather-wrapped toggle switch.

Overall, the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace SVR represents a series of small refinements to combat the company’s chief rivals — namely the Porsche Macan Turbo, BMW X3 M and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63. We expect the new SVR to hit Jaguar dealerships in the coming months. While we wait, check out the previous version below for comparison:

Meet the stunning Jaguar F-Type in its most extreme form

Jaguar F Type SVR
Benjamin Zhang/Business Insider
  • The Jaguar F-Type SVR is the stylish sports car in its most extreme form.
  • We drove the SVR on the track and around the roads of New Jersey.
  • Power, handling, and stylish looks impressed.

The Jaguar F-Type is one of my favorite cars.

I like the F-Type so much that I nearly swayed my colleague Matt DeBord into handing the Jag Business Insider's Car of the Year award in 2014 instead of the game-changing Corvette Stingray.

Over the past few years, I've had the pleasure of spending hundreds of miles behind the wheel of roughly half a dozen versions of the British sports car — including V6-engine coupes with an old-school stick shift and V8 powered convertibles.

My F-Type experiences have been flawless — except one.

About two years ago, I drove an all-wheel-drive F-Type R coupe. Even though I loved its Ian Callum-sculpted bodywork, muscle-bound supercharged V8 engine, and mind-bending exhaust note, the Jag's driving dynamics felt dull and lifeless. The joyfulness and exuberance that has long been a signature piece of the F-Type experience was gone. The culprit was the all-wheel-drive system.

Fast forward two years and I'm once again behind the wheel of an all-wheel-drive F-Type — this time in the form of a 2017 SVR.

The F-Type SVR is the work of Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations, or SVO, the company's in-house workshop tasked with developing its ultra-luxury or high-performance cars.

Jaguar F Type SVR
Benjamin Zhang/Business Insider

And what a job the SVO has done.

For the SVR edition, Jag's Skunk Works pumped up the F-Type's monster 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with an extra 25 horsepower to push its rating to 575 horsepower. The SVR also gets enlarged air intakes, revised charge air coolers, and an Inconel titanium exhaust system that reduces back pressure and cuts 35 pounds from the car. Further, Jaguar optimized the SVR's aerodynamics with a redesigned front bumper, splitter, new under-body, rear venturi tunnels, and an active carbon-fiber rear spoiler. With the use of carbon body panels and the carbon ceramic matrix brakes, the SVR can be as much as 11o pounds lighter than the regular F-Type.

But the adjustment that made the most significant difference in the way the SVR drives is the reengineered Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) software that controls the all-wheel-drive system. In previous iterations of AWD F-Types, the IDD dominated the driving experience — giving it an artificial feel that's akin to that of a video game. While capable of delivering incredible speed and performance, the system removed all the subtlety that made the car fun.

Jaguar F Type SVR
Benjamin Zhang/Business Insider

In the SVR, the reworked IDD now mimics the feel of a rear-wheel-drive car with the system's all-wheel-drive traction ready to pounce at a moment's notice, like an ever-present safety net.

At New York's Monticello Motor Club, the SVR took to the racetrack like a fish to water. In twisty sections, the Jag's active aerodynamics and adjustable suspension kept the car stable. When pushed hard in corner, you can feel the rear end push out only to be brought back into line by the all-wheel-drive system. Exiting the bend, the SVR's 575 ponies come to life as the quick-shifting 8-speed automatic makes its way trough the gears. Speed happens with great immediacy along with a Grammy-worth soundtrack of pops and burbles that emanate from its quad exhausts.

According to Jaguar, the totality of these changes result in a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph — making the SVR the fastest production model from the company since its underappreciated 213-mph XJ220 supercar.

On the winding roads of rural New Jersey, the SVR felt equally at home. The F-Type's leather-lined interior felt cozy and comfortable while the muscular V8 engine effortlessly chewed up the miles.

Jaguar F Type SVR
Benjamin Zhang/Business Insider

All this performance comes at a price. The 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR starts at $125,950. Our option-laden test car came in at more than $145,000.

Although it's far from cheap, the F-Type SVR offers true supercar performance with grand-touring comfort and British style at a sub-supercar price.

But for me, the SVR keeps the Jaguar F-Type as one of truly great sports cars money can buy.
