How to Check Your Credit Card Application Status: Walmart and More

Sometimes when you complete a credit card application you get an instant decision: either an instant approval or instant denial. However, in many cases the credit card issuer may require more time to review your application, check your credit reports and credit scores, and determine your credit limit.

The major card issuers allow you to easily check the status of your credit card application, either online or by phone. If you didn’t get an instant decision, you can usually contact the issuer to get the ball moving faster.

Why You Might Not Get Immediate Approval

Even consumers with excellent credit scores don’t always get approved right away. There are many factors that weigh into the credit card approval and credit limit. Some common items that may delay an immediate decision include:

  • Several recent credit inquiries: If you’ve applied for several lines of credit (loans or credit cards) recently, the credit card issuer may want to look into those further to make sure you’ll be able to pay back any additional credit card spending.
  • The need for income verification: A representative may contact you to request additional information while reviewing your application, like proof of income. While income doesn’t impact your credit scores, it’s usually a factor for credit card approval as most issuers consider your debt-to-income ratio (the amount of debt you carry compared to your income).
  • A mistake on your application: Something as simple as a transposed 5 and 3 in your Social Security number when entered into your application could cause a delay.
  • No apparent reason: Sometimes a credit card application won’t be decided instantly, but for no apparent reason. If you call the reconsideration line you may be approved or denied without any further delay.

If you don’t get an immediate decision, the credit card issuer will usually notify you of the results by mail within 7–10 business days (some creditors may take 2–4 weeks). In some cases you may get an email in addition to snail mail.

Why Wasn’t I Immediately Approved When I Was Pre-Approved?

You may receive pre-approved credit card offers via direct mail or email, or when checking issuer websites. These offers mean you fit certain criteria (such as certain credit scores or number of accounts open). However, although a pre-approval or pre-qualification generally means you’re more likely to be approved, it’s not a guarantee you’ll qualify for a credit card.

You may only qualify for adjusted terms (like a higher interest rate than listed in the original offer) or could even get declined if your financial details — like credit utilization, income, or debt-to-income ratio — have changed substantially since the issuer processed or sent your pre-approval letter.

Some credit card issuers have specific reconsideration phone numbers for calling about pending or denied applications.

A reconsideration line offers the opportunity to speak with a customer support representative who specializes in lending applications, with the aim of being approved. If your application wasn’t instantly approved, it’s often worth calling and asking why.

This works for many people, although it’s not a sure bet. Some report having luck after calling back multiple times and trying different reps, or speaking with a supervisor if they felt the rep was not handling the case properly.

Your best bet is to politely and clearly request additional information about why your application is pending or declined, and to provide the rep with any personal information that may help make your case for approval.

For lenders without dedicated reconsideration (or “recon”) lines, you can usually call the regular credit card application line or the general customer support line and make your case in the same way (you may get transferred once or twice along the way).

Insider tip

If you need to contact a credit card issuer to check the status of your application, make sure you have any pertinent information available. You’ll need to provide your Social Security number to access the application and may need to provide other security details to prove your identity. If you’re making a call, do so in a private location so no one overhears your personal details.

Understanding Your Store Credit Card Application Status

Like regular cards, store or retail credit cards don’t always have an immediate credit approval or denial. They can be especially tempting as you’re closing out that sale at the register (or online shopping cart), especially if you’re offered a discount on the spot.

However, before applying you’ll want to do a little research. While some store cards may offer valuable perks, you might want to check out other cash back credit cards that offer better overall rewards.

Also, interest rates are often notoriously high on retail credit cards, so while it’s always best to pay off your statement balance every month, if you carry any balance you’ll end up paying a lot more for it. If your credit isn’t stellar there are general-use cards tailored for fair or average credit, bad credit, or no credit to check out.

Keep reading to learn how to check your application status with some popular retail credit cards.

Amazon Credit Card Application Status

There are several Amazon credit cards available, so here’s the scoop on each. There are a few different issuers:

Note that the Amazon website indicates for the Chase cards that due to the time it takes to process applications, you should wait at least two weeks after applying before contacting Chase about the status of your application. It also states that neither Amazon nor Chase will be able to speed up the processing of an Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card application.

JCPenney Credit Card Application Status

The JCPenney Credit Card (Review) is a store card issued by Synchrony that’s only usable at JCPenney. You can call 800-542-0800 to speak to JCPenney Credit Services about your application.

There is no online application check available, but you can review the JCPenney card FAQs here.

Lowe’s Credit Card Application Status

Lowe’s offers several credit cards through Synchrony and a Lowe’s Business Rewards Card (Review) through Amex. Contact its Credit Center for information on consumer or business credit cards at 800-444-1408.

There’s no application check available online, but after you have an account you can access the Lowes Credit Center here.

Macy’s Credit Card Application Status

There are two Macy’s cards available. One is offered by Citi, and only usable at Macy’s: the Macy’s Credit Card (Review). The other is by Amex, and you can use it anywhere Amex is accepted: the Macy’s American Express® Card (Review).

You can contact Macy’s Credit Customer Service at 888-257-6757.

Sears Credit Card Application Status

There are two Sears cards — the Sears Card® (Review), which can only be used for Sears and Kmart purchases, and the Shop Your Way Mastercard® (Review).

The cards are offered through Citi, so you may be able to use the same online portal mentioned above for other Citi cards. You can also reach the relevant Sears/Citi customer service at 800-917-7700.

Target Credit Card Application Status

The Target REDcard™ Credit Card (Review) is offered through T.D. Bank, N.A. To check on the status of your application, call 800-424-6888.

Walmart Credit Card Application Status

There are two co-branded Walmart credit cards, both issued by Capital One: the Walmart Rewards Mastercard (Review) and the Walmart Rewards Card (Review).

You can probably check your application status for either card by dialing 1-800-903-9177, the Capital One application status hotline.

However, we can’t currently confirm you should use this number for these cards. We’ll update this page when we have more information.

What to Do if You Get Denied for a Credit Card

If your application is denied, you can try reaching out to the reconsideration lines mentioned above. You can also call the card issuer’s credit services department. After you’ve confirmed the application was denied, take these steps:

  1. Review the adverse action notice letter: If you’re denied credit, the issuer is legally required to send you an adverse action notice which lays out the reasons for its decision.
  2. Check your credit reports:Review your credit reports for any negative items you might be able to address. And look for red flags indicating identity theft (e.g. accounts or inquiries that aren’t yours) as well as any items you may need to dispute if something is being reported incorrectly.
  3. Work on building your credit and apply again later: If your credit needs a little help, learn how you can build it up and improve your scores. It may take time, but with some attention you should be able to get approved for a new card in the future.

Doing a little research before you apply for a credit card can increase your chance of approval. Check out your pre-approval status with a few different issuers to see the types of cards you’re likely to qualify for.

The bottom line is that you’re not out of luck if your application isn’t immediately approved — you may just have to wait a bit, or make your case with a reconsideration call. If all that fails, you can still try again later or set your sights on a different credit card.

Credit One Bank

American bank

Not to be confused with Capital One.

Credit One Bank, N.A., simply referred to as Credit One Bank, is a Las Vegas, Nevada-based bank and financial services company specializing in credit cards. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Credit One Financial, incorporated in Nevada. Credit One Financial is a Subchapter-S corporation that is affiliated with Sherman Financial Group, LLC through common beneficial ownership.[1][2] As of 2020, Credit One Bank services more than 10 million cardholders across the United States.

National bank charter[edit]

Credit One Bank operates under a CEBA national bank charter (OCC Charter Number: 20291).[3] This type of charter affects the bank's lending and deposit functions. Requirements are set forth in an amendment to the Bank Holding Company Act (BHCA), the Competitive Equality Banking Act of 1987, hence the term CEBA bank.[4] Such an institution, including an institution that accepts collateral for extensions of credit by holding deposits under $100,000, and by other means can engage only in credit card operations; does not accept demand deposits or deposits that the depositor may withdraw by check or similar means for payment to third parties or others, does not accept any savings or time deposits of less than $100,000, maintains only one office that accepts deposits, and does not engage in the business of making commercial loans, other than credit card loans that are made to businesses that meet the criteria for a small business concern to be eligible for business loans under regulations established by the Small Business Administration under part 121 of title 13, Code of Federal Regulations.[5][6] Any deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Credit One's FDIC Certificate Number is 25620.[7]

History[edit]

Credit One Bank began operations as a full-service bank under the name First National Bank of Marin (FNBM) in San Rafael, California, on July 30, 1984. FNBM maintained a wide range of products until 1995 when it began focusing primarily on two types of products, partially and fully secured credit cards. FNBM received a limited purpose designation from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a bureau of the United States Department of the Treasury, in June 1996. Limited purpose banks offer only a narrow product line. The bank moved from San Rafael, California, to Las Vegas, Nevada, in November 1998. FNBM obtained its CEBA status in March 2005 and subsequently changed its name to Credit One Bank, N.A. on February 1, 2006.

In 2018, Credit One Bank relocated its headquarters to a 152,000-square-foot facility in Las Vegas eight miles to the west of its old headquarters, housing its corporate offices and its information technology, customer service, marketing, human resources, and finance departments.[8][9] In 2021, Credit One Bank announced the completion of Phase II, expanding their corporate headquarters at 6801 Cimarron Road in Las Vegas Nevada. The new four story complex designed by Ed Vance & Associates Architects added 157,000 square feet of new office space and featured a two story 4,000 square foot "Town Hall" commons linking the two buildings into a unified whole.[10]

Logo similarity[edit]

The Credit One Bank logo and the Capital One logo are very similar in that they both have an arcing "swoosh" above their names. This has led to some confusion among consumers who believe the two are the same company. Credit One Bank adopted their black and blue logo in 2006 after they changed their name, and Capital One adopted their blue and red logo in 2008.[8]

[edit]

Credit One Bank first got involved with sponsorship with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2016. In 2017 Jamie McMurray sported a Credit One Bank No. 1 car for four races. The next year, the sponsor shifted to Kyle Larson who sported the No. 42 car in eight Monster Energy Cup events and two NASCAR Xfinity Series events. After Target’s departure from NASCAR after 2017, Credit One Bank became Larson's primary sponsor for the No. 42 Chevrolet starting the following season.[11] Since 2016, Credit One Bank has been sponsoring the broadcast of the white flag lap of most NASCAR races. [12]

Starting in 2017, Credit One Bank became a sponsor of the National Hockey League's Vegas Golden Knights in their inaugural season.[13]

Starting in 2019, Credit One Bank became a founding partner with Minor League Baseball'sLas Vegas Aviators, a Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.[14] Credit One Bank is also a sponsor of the NFLLas Vegas Raiders.[15]

Credit One Bank sponsored a TV only 2020 women's tennis tournament, The Credit One Bank Invitational.

Chase Credit Card Application Status Explained: No Instant Approval, No Worries

You just clicked “submit” on your application for a new Chase credit card, and the few seconds it took to decide your fate felt like a lifetime. If you’re lucky enough to have received instant approval, you can rest easy knowing you’ll have your new card in a few days.

But that isn’t always the case. If you aren’t approved instantly and your Chase credit card application status is pending, don’t worry and assume the worst yet.

There are a handful of reasons why you might not have received an immediate approval from the credit card issuer. Even something as simple as a typo could send your credit card application to the “under review” pile. This additional review process generally takes anywhere from seven to 10 business days, although in some cases, it could take up to 30 days.

While it can be a drag, if you go in knowing what to expect, it might make the process a little more bearable.

What it means if your Chase application status is under review

It’s understandable to feel anxious after finding out you weren’t instantly approved for a credit card. You might even consider scouring your entire credit profile to identify what it was exactly that now requires further review.

Try not to overthink it. While instant approval is ideal, being notified that your application is under review doesn’t automatically mean you’re on the edge of being denied. Especially if you are applying for a business card, Chase may simply have additional questions for you.

As your application undergoes further review, Chase will consider the following to make a decision:

  • Credit history
  • Income
  • Debt
  • Housing status
  • Number of recently-opened credit cards

It’s generally all the same information normally used to make a decision, but since the criteria required to trigger an instant approval may not have been met, someone at Chase will have to take a closer look manually.

Possible outcomes

Once a decision is made, you’ll likely be notified by mail or email as to whether or not you were approved. If you were approved, you’ll find out what your credit limit is and when to expect your new card in the mail.

It’s also possible that Chase will request additional information to assist in the decision-making process. This could be anything from proof of income to correcting mistakes that may have been made on the initial application.

Chase business credit card applications

If you’re applying for a business credit card from Chase, it’s likely you won’t be instantly approved. The Chase Ink business cards are very popular, especially with those who also have other Chase cards that earn Ultimate Rewards, as you can pool your points across your accounts. With generous sign-up offers, high rewards rates on purchases, and spending power that’s valuable to any business, there is little wonder why so many people apply for these powerful small business cards.

But getting approved for a business card is a little more complicated than for a consumer card. There may be more information than your credit history that needs to be verified, which can result in a longer waiting period when it comes to an approval decision. A recent call to Chase Ink Business’ customer service revealed that they receive so many applications that it takes at least seven to 10 business days to review all the information before a decision is reached.

If you’re worried about the time it’s taking to get a response from Chase about your business credit card application, calling customer service is your best bet. Don’t call the reconsideration line unless you’ve received a notice that your application was denied. Doing this will possibly result in more questions to answer while your application is still under review, which unnecessarily complicates the process. Sometimes just waiting to hear from Chase is the best strategy.

How to check the status of your Chase application

If you find you’re too eager to await the decision, you can actually check your Chase credit card status as often as you want by logging into your account or calling for an update.

To check your credit card application status online, visit Chase.com, log in to your Chase account, and click the icon in the top left corner to pull up the main menu. From there, under “Explore Products,” you should see the option “Application status.” This will open up your application activity.

Check Chase application status by phone

The other option is to call customer service for Chase credit cards and go through the automated system or speak to a representative directly. To check the status of personal credit cards using the automated system, call the status line phone number: 1-800-432-3117. Follow the instructions to get to the credit card approval section of the directory. Once there, you’ll need to enter your Social Security number to retrieve the application.

For business credit cards, call this phone number to check the status of your application: 1-800-453-9719.

How to improve your chances of being approved

The criteria you need to qualify varies from card to card, but there are a few things you can do that can help set you up for success.

  • Improve your credit score: Since it’s one of the leading factors of whether or not you’ll be approved, you should know if your credit score aligns with the credit card you’re applying for. If it means having to wait a little longer, it might make sense to work on improving your score to increase your chances of being approved.
  • Be mindful of credit utilization: Chase is going to look at whether or not you’ve been handling your credit responsibly, and this includes checking how much credit you’re currently using. If you’re maxing out credit cards or carrying over high balances month to month, they’ll see this as a red flag.
  • Keep the Chase 5/24 rule in mind: Chase has been known to operate under a little rule called Chase 5/24. Though these sorts of application rules are unofficial, this one pretty much means if you’ve signed up for five new accounts in the past 24 months, you stand little chance of being approved for a new credit card within that time frame. This includes all credit card accounts from all credit card issuers — not just Chase.

If your Chase credit card application is denied

Unfortunately, it happens. If your application is denied, consider calling the Chase reconsideration line, which is 1-888-270-2127. There’s no guarantee, of course, but it may be worth trying if your circumstances have changed or you wish to further explain something on your application.

If you can’t persuade them in your favor, you may have to focus on what you can do yourself to improve your chances going forward. Depending on your situation, this might mean taking some time to improve your credit score, reduce debt, or let the dust settle if you’ve recently applied for multiple cards.

Alternatives to Chase cards

If you aren't approved for a Chase card, you may still have some options, depending on your situation. If you have a decent credit score and you're over 5/24, you might want to consider applying for a credit card from a different issuer. For instance, The Platinum Card® from American Express is a top travel rewards card that offers comparable — and maybe even better — perks than the Chase Sapphire Reserve card.

As a new Amex Platinum cardmember, you can earn 100,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $6,000 in the first 6 months. Plus, this rewards card offers 10X Membership Rewards points on restaurants worldwide and when you Shop Small in the U.S (on up to $25,000 in combined purchases during the first 6 months, after that 1X). Amex Platinum cardmembers also get top-tier benefits like airport lounge access, elite status with Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors, a statement credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry, and Uber VIP status. While it does have a hefty annual fee of $695 (See rates and fees), it's possible to offset that cost if you can take advantage of this card's many perks. Note that select benefits require enrollment.

If you have less-than-stellar credit, but you're working toward improving it, the Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards card may be worth considering. It's arguably one of the best credit cards for fair credit because it earns cashback rewards. Typically, it's difficult to get approved for a rewards credit card with fair or average credit, but this card is often an exception to that rule. It carries a reasonable $39 annual fee, and you get unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase. Plus, you'll also automatically be considered for a credit line increase every six months, which may help improve your credit utilization. With responsible use, you could be on your way to a better credit score over time.

Commonly asked questions about Chase application status

How long does it take to get approved for a Chase credit card?

While you may be eager to start taking advantage of Ultimate Rewards right away, credit card approval timelines may vary. If you applied online or through your mobile device, you may receive an application decision within minutes. If you didn’t receive an immediate approval, the approval process may take 7 to 10 business days.

Does Chase have 24/7 customer service?

Yes. As an existing or prospective Chase customer, you can call Chase credit card support and speak to an agent 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-432-3117.

Does Chase ever approve credit card applications instantly?

In some cases, you may receive an instant, or same-day, credit card approval online, if you are eligible. Some cards will even enable you to earn bonus points by spending money soon after your account opening. Alternatively, you may receive an email saying more time is needed or that you need to call in with more information. If you don’t receive an instant credit card application decision, you can always reach out to a Chase credit card support agent at 1-800-432-3117 for an update.

Is it hard to get approved for a Chase credit card?

Approval for a Chase credit card will vary with the card being applied for and with each applicant. Some Chase cards, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Disney Visa, and the Chase Freedom Unlimited, require a good to excellent credit score. Other cards require a fair credit score. Other factors, such as income and existing debt, are also used to determine credit card approvals. The best way to improve your odds of being approved for a Chase credit card is to work on raising your credit score.

Can I apply for the Chase Freedom Unlimited if I have the Chase Freedom?

Yes, you can apply for the Chase Freedom Unlimited credit card, even if you already have the Chase Freedom card. These rewards credit cards are two separate Chase products with different rewards structures. That said, be aware that Chase does keep an eye on how many cards you’ve been applying for overall, so you may want to read up on the 5/24 rule.

Can you have two Chase business cards?

Chase doesn’t have any documentation when it comes to how many Chase business cards you can have. So while we don’t know the maximum number of Chase business cards you can have, you can definitely have more than one. However, before you apply for two Ink Business cards, consider Chase’s 2/30 rule.

The Chase 2/30 rule is an unwritten policy backed up by many data points in the points-and-miles community. It indicates that if you’ve been approved for two Chase cards within the past 30 days, you’re not likely to be approved again. So if you've added the Chase Ink Business Preferred and the United Club Business cards to your wallet in the past month, it's unlikely you'll be approved for another business credit card. Some sources report that the limit is two consumer cards and one business card.

Since this is a generalized guideline and not a concrete rule, experiences may vary. But if you don’t want to risk too many hard inquiries to your credit report, it’s a good idea to keep the 2/30 rule in mind before submitting your application and when evaluating your chances of approval.

The bottom line

Getting denied for a credit card stinks, but it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road. If you have your heart set on a specific Chase card, go through your credit report and locate any weak points that may have been a factor in their decision. Use this as an opportunity to see where you can improve and start making moves. If you’re open to applying for a credit card from a different issuer, several other options offer valuable perks like cash back and no annual fees.

I got this card about 16months ago when my fico was about 530, got approved for 300, then 450, then 600 now 750. Yes they charge u 22.95 for every increase, yes they charge their annual fee in annoying monthly payments of 8.25 probably hoping u miss a payment so they can hit u with the late fee. My score is now 594 just got approved for cap one quicksilver for 300. This card is about rebuilding credit ive never dealt with the cust service, i make about 200 a month of purchases and sometimes make multiple payments on purchases. They do report to all 3 bureaus and it is accurate. Its helped me get my score up and yes when i hit about 700 ill probably cancel it as i get better cards with lesser fees in the meantime if i asked u would u pay me 99 bucks if i could get your fico score up 50points in a year u probably would if you looking at this review, well thats what this card can do. All the negative reviews are from stupid people not reading, yes express payments they charge, standard ones are free they take maybe 4 biz days and no your available credit isnt available til after it processes so maybe a week in total. Everything is in writing people just have to learn to read and they then wont get u with all these hidden charges.

WORST CREDIT CARD EVER!!!! PLEASE RUN!!!! I went out of town & used the card at Walmart & my card was immediately declined. I received a text to confirm the transaction. I received another text stating my card was cleared and ready to use again. Well, it wasn't. Customer service was closed. I called the following morning only to discover that if you're out of town & use it at Walmart they automatically place a block on your card and to remove this block you must FAX a copy of you Drivers License & a recent utility bill to their 'home office' it gets better, it takes 2-3 days for them to receive your fax & an additional 7-10 days for them to review it & release the hold on your card!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have NEVER heard of it taking ANY company 13 days to confirm I AM WHO I SAY I AM!!! Besides I answered every security question, social security #, address, phone number, last transactions!! I'M DONE!!!

A good card for the desperate

Credit Karma Member

It's not a very good card, but to build credit it's a good enough card. They charge you interest on all purchases and not just end of the month balance. It cost money to do express pay. It also cost money for credit line increases. However, they accurately report your balance and payment status and it has helped me get my credit up over 50 points. If you can get something else, do that instead. However if they is your only option it's not to bad.

All Bad - Use another option

Credit Karma Member

The Worst if you’re looking to re-build credit. Easy to get after my divorce, but very predatory and actually brought down my credit. Paid & shredded.

This company has no respect for the elderly

Credit Karma Member

I made a payment om their website and canceled it right away because my wife had already made a payment, and more than the min. amount. They took the payment I canceled and applied it to the card anyway. That transaction overdrew my account by$ 327.07. I have a checking account that I use just for bills. Another check went through an now my account is $527.07 overdrew. I called and spoke to a supervisor and they said that there's nothing she could do. Then she says ,well your available balance is $$$ so I can send you that but not the 327.07. Do yourself a huge favor. STAT AWAY FROM CREDIT ONE BANK

The worst Credit Card Co

I cannot believe they are still operating today

Credit One Amex

Credit Karma Member

The AMEX card itself is fine, but the credit one customer service is awful. I called to report fraud and it was awful. Told them I wanted to cancel the card after the fraud had been resolved and all they did was try to sell me on more benefits. I was polite, but had to get really stern with them to get them to cancel the card.

The Reviews Don't Lie

I've had this card for 9 months, no credit line increase. I don't carry a balance and pay before the date. I hate I had my husband to apply. Don't fall for anything because we are desperate to build credit.

Read moreHow Your Debt-to-Income Ratio Affects Your Eligibility for New Credit

Check Chase application status online

Pros Explained

  • Credit cards to help build credit – Credit One’s credit cards are designed for consumers who are rebuilding their credit. You may apply directly with the bank, while some potential customers are targeted through direct mail campaigns based on credit report criteria.
  • Rewards cards earn up to 5% cash back – Many credit cards focused on rebuilding credit are bare bones. However, Credit One offers multiple credit cards that offer cash back rewards and other benefits. Some credit cards offer rewards of up to 5% cash back on your purchases.
  • Minimum credit line of $300 – The bank explicitly states that the minimum credit limit offered is $300 in its terms and conditions. This sets the right expectations for potential customers and ensures that there is credit available after any annual fees are charged.

Cons Explained

  • High interest rates – Because Credit One targets customers with rebuilding credit, the risk of lending to these customers is higher than average. To compensate for this risk, the interest rate charged on its credit cards is higher.
  • Variable annual fees based on creditworthiness (up to $99) – Although Credit One offers one credit card with a guaranteed $0 annual fee, several others are variable based on your creditworthiness. This could lead to a surprise for customers who apply and are unsure of their credit situation.
  • Foreign transaction fees of 3% – All of the Credit One credit cards charge a 3% foreign transaction fee. This fee is levied for those making purchases while traveling internationally or buying from an online store based in another country.

Who Is Credit One Best For?

Credit One is best for consumers who are looking for a credit card to rebuild their credit and want the option to earn rewards on their purchases. Additionally, these customers should be satisfied with their current bank for deposit accounts and lending products, as Credit One does not offer checking, savings, and other deposit accounts, nor does it provide other lending solutions, such as mortgages or home equity loans and lines of credit.

What Does Credit One Offer?

The only product that Credit One offers is consumer credit cards. Its 13 cards are geared toward consumers who are rebuilding their credit. At this time Credit One does not offer business credit cards. Some credit cards offer cash back rewards and bonuses for spending on certain products or up to a maximum dollar amount each year.

  • Platinum Rewards Visa
  • Credit One Bank American Express Card

Credit One Customer Service

Customers are able to receive current account information at any time of day or night through the Credit One website, its mobile app, or automated telephone banking. Live customer support is available from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT Monday through Friday at 1-877-825-3242. Weekend support is available from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT on Saturday and Sunday.

The Credit One mobile app allows you to schedule payments, check balances and available credit, view your free Experian credit report, and more. It is available in both iOS and Android formats. Third-party reviewers give it high ratings.

How to Bank With Credit One

To apply for a credit card with Credit One, the easiest method is through its website at CreditOne.com, where you can respond to a preapproved offer received by mail or check on your application status. You can also see if you’re preapproved for any credit cards without submitting a formal credit report inquiry. If you’re not preapproved, you can submit a formal application for the card of your choice.

Verdict

Credit One is a credit card lender whose products are geared toward consumers who are rebuilding their credit. Although some credit cards offer rewards, consumers with above-average credit can find more-rewarding credit card options at other banks. The bank does not offer any other deposit or lending products, and none of its products are available for businesses. Keep your existing bank, or look for another one, to meet your deposit account and other lending needs. If you need to rebuild your credit, Credit One is a good place to start. You’ll receive at least a $300 credit line if approved, and none of its credit cards have an annual fee higher than $99. Interest rates are higher than average, which provides an incentive for customers to pay off their balance in full each month to avoid being charged interest on purchases.

Read moreHow Your Debt-to-Income Ratio Affects Your Eligibility for New Credit

For lenders without dedicated reconsideration (or “recon”) lines, you can usually call the regular credit card application line or the general customer support line and make your case in the same way (you may get transferred bank of america dua sign in or twice along the way).

Insider tip

If you need to contact a credit card issuer to check the status of your application, make sure you have any pertinent information available. You’ll need to provide your Social Security number to access the application and may need to provide other security details to prove your identity. If you’re making a call, do so in a private location so no one overhears your personal details.

My score is piers morgan tess holliday 594 just got approved for cap one quicksilver for 300. This card is about rebuilding credit ive never dealt with the cust service, i make about 200 a month of purchases and sometimes make multiple payments on purchases. They do report to all 3 bureaus and it is accurate. Its helped me get my score up and yes when i hit about 700 ill probably cancel it as i get better cards with lesser fees in the meantime if i asked u would u pay me 99 bucks if united shore mortgage phone number could get your fico score up 50points in a year u probably would if you looking at this review, well thats what this card can do.

I went out of town & used the card at Walmart & my card was check the status of credit one credit card declined.

Credit One Amex

Credit Karma Member

The AMEX card itself is fine, but the credit one customer service is awful. I called to report fraud and it was awful. Told them I wanted to cancel the card after the fraud had been resolved and all they did was try to sell me on more benefits. I was polite, but had to get really stern with them to get them to cancel the card.

I have had this card since march 2021,I will spend the 300 credit limit then pay off before due date.Requested a cli and was denied, called and ask why and couldn't give a answer! No point in having this card since I have other cards with a better interest rate and no fees.

Platinum Rewards Visa

Our thoughts

The Platinum Rewards Visa with Cash Back Rewards comes with an annual fee of $95, but also a good cashback rewards program that can easily make up for the annual fee. You earn 5% cashback rewards on the first $5,000 of eligible purchases on gas, grocery, and internet, cable, satellite TV and mobile phone services each year, then 1% thereafter. If you spend at least $5,000 on groceries in a year, that's $250 in cash back before you hit the earnings cap. The card also comes with a higher minimum credit line of $500, making it a good way to go for someone with average credit.

By the way, if you have Excellent/Good credit and you love the idea of grocery rewards, you should check out the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express. It offers a better cashback rate on U.S. supermarket purchases.

Credit One Bank Wander Card

Our thoughts

If you love to travel, the Credit One Bank Wander Card is actually a pretty decent travel rewards card with rewards especially targeted to national park and amusement park lovers. Cardholders earn bonus points on amusement parks, as well as restaurants and hotels. For a $95 annual fee, this is actually a good rate on travel purchases. New cardholders are also treated to an $80 statement credit toward a national park pass in the first year.

Your points are fairly straightforward to redeem: You can redeem them toward statement credits in increments of 1,000 at a value of 1 cent per point. You can also redeem points for gift cards, merchandise and more.

Credit One Bank American Express Card

Our thoughts

The Credit One Bank American Express Card charges a $39 annual fee, but offers Unlimited 1% cash back rewards on all purchases and, most notably, travel benefits and purchase protections from American Express. You'll have to contend with slightly more limited merchant acceptance, since it's an Amex card, though on the plus side, you'll be covered with benefits, like 90 day coverage against theft and damage on eligible items.

Credit One Bank® Platinum Rewards Visa With No Annual Fee

Our thoughts

This is the only card from Credit One with a $0 annual fee in its terms, and therefore one of the best options on this list. It's a decent choice for earning rewards while building credit: You'll Earn 2% cash back rewards on eligible gas and grocery purchases as well as mobile phone, internet, cable, and satellite TV services, terms apply, without having to pay an annual fee. Unfortunately, you don't earn any cash back outside of its limited earning categories, so if you have good credit, you can find better cashback credit cards.

Vegas Golden Knights Credit Card

Our thoughts

Similar to the Credit One Bank® NASCAR® Credit Card, this card is targeted to fans of Las Vegas’ hockey team. It charges an annual fee of $0 to $75 for the first year. After that, $0 to $99. However, while it does include special deals and discounts for Golden Knights fans, it doesn't offer a cashback bonus on Golden Knights purchases. Instead, you'll be offered 1% cash back on a variety of categories, just like the Credit One Bank® Unsecured Visa® with Cash Back Rewards.

Six Flags® Rewards Visa

Our thoughts

Amusement park enthusiasts should give the Six Flags® Rewards Visa a close look. In addition to generous points on Six Flag purchases, the card awards a fair amount of points on gas, groceries and lodging. The card is open to users with Average to Excellent credit, with applicants on the lower side of this range qualifying for a $0-$39 annual fee. This is not a bad deal for someone trying to improve their credit score, though applicants with higher scores can do better.

WWE® Champion Credit Card

Our thoughts

The WWE® Champion Credit Card is a solid option for applicants with Average credit who are also fans of sports entertainment. The specific perks for WWE fans are limited — you’ll get a specially designed card and access to special promotions from WWE. However, the card’s cashback rewards are a good reason to sign up, potentially making up for the annual fee each year.

What to watch out for with Credit One cards

Credit One cards can be useful tools for consumers working on their credit scores, though its terms can be a little confusing, since they can vary widely depending on your credit profile.

Here are a few items to keep an eye out for when applying for the cards:

  • Annual fee. Many Credit One cards charge an annual fee, and the fee can be very pricey for certain types of cardholders (up to $99 per year) if you're trying to rebuild credit. Furthermore, you can't tell until you prequalify how high of an annual fee you'll get. There is also variability in how the fee is billed — some cardholders are billed all at once; for others, the annual fee may be divided by 12 and billed monthly. Make sure you check the terms of the offer when you prequalify to see if you can afford the annual fee. You may be better off applying for a secured credit card with no annual fee.
  • Uncertain terms. While Credit One has vastly improved over the past year, providing clearer annual fees and rewards rates on its site, it occasionally doesn't tell you these terms up front. In this case, reading through the terms and conditions can be pretty confusing due to all the caveats in the fine print. Fortunately, Credit One gives you more specifics once you fill out its prequalification form, so you don't have to commit to a card until you have an idea what you're in for.
  • Low initial credit limit in the first month. When applying for a credit building product with Credit One, you should also be aware that the card's annual fee is sometimes automatically charged to your account and comes out of your check the status of credit one credit card limit for the first month. In this case, if you have a $99 annual fee and a $300 credit limit, you'll only have $201 in remaining credit until you pay off your card that month.
  • Optional credit protection program. Credit One offers an optional credit protection program on some of its products. For a fee of $0.96 for every $100 of your balance, Credit One will help you make your payments in case of unemployment or disability. However, we suggest you spare yourself the fee and simply avoid carrying a balance on the card.

How to make the most your Credit One card

With proper use of these cards, you can boost your credit score and eventually qualify for larger credit lines and better cards. Here are some tips for making the most of your new card:

  • Use your card each month. You can't build a credit history without using your card. To make it easy, try putting an ongoing purchase — like a gym membership — on your card, then be sure to pay it off each month. You'll be well on your way to a better credit score.
  • Don't charge too much. It's easy to get in over your head with credit, so take it easy with your new card — instead of going on a spending spree, start with a few small expenses each month and build from there.
  • Don't carry a balance. Pay off your balance each month. Not only does this prevent you from developing debt, but it keeps your credit utilization low — a major factor in credit scoring.
  • Pay your balance as soon as your statement closes. It's a good idea to pay your card early to make sure your payment has time to process. You’ll save yourself from having to pay interest, as well as penalty fees.
